Hauhinco Holding acquires EXPROTEC GmbH from Menden, Germany

Effective April 3, 2023, Hauhinco Holding GmbH will acquire automation specialist EXPPROTEC GMBH (formerly Bartec) of Menden, North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, as a strategic investor.

The company, which focuses on solutions for demanding electrical engineering challenges in the mining, raw materials and heavy industries, will now operate under the name HBT Automation GmbH and completes the longwall technology range of HBT GmbH (Hauhinco Bergbautechnik) in Luenen, NRW, Germany with electrical engineering for potentially explosive atmospheres.

EXPROTEC is an ideal addition to the portfolio of HBT GmbH. HBT will thus in the future also support its customers with advanced power distribution and automation systems – from on-board supply of a mobile machine to the power supply of permanently installed equipment, in tunnels or mines, or in hazardous areas such as gas fields or on offshore installations.

All 42 employees of EXPROTEC will be taken over; the parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price. Newly formed HBT Automation GmbH is to move from Menden to the Westfalia Campus in Luenen in the 4th quarter of 2023.

Hauhinco already secured important industrial jobs on the campus in fall 2022 with the acquisition of Caterpillar Global Mining Europe GmbH.

About EXPROTEC:

EXPROTEC designs, manufactures and markets explosion-proof electronics applications. The product range includes highly resistant control cabinets, power distribution systems, automation systems, frequency converters as well as electric motors.

Since autumn 2021 the company, which developed from a manufacturing plant of AEG in Menden as well as takeover of the underground mining activities of SIEMENS, traded under the brand name EXPROTEC at the location in Menden. In recent fiscal years, the company has generated average annual sales of around seven million euros. Based on its proven core competencies in explosion protection in mining, EXPROTEC is expanding its range of products and services to include other applications in potentially explosive atmospheres such as equipment for exploration drilling, offshore applications or water electrolysis.
